Ape's first EP is a mixture of songs spanning from the band's creation, to newer songs that were written with Izzy on board. A mix of funky guitar parts, smooth jazzy bass lines, hard hitting drum beats and memorable lyrics make up half an hour that showcases everything that the funk quartet is good at. The CD opener 'Out of Order' is a gorgeously funky song that contrast beautifully with the powerballad "Gods and Birds" that closes the album.
Tracks such as 'Fool' and 'Distress' show off the band's typical melodic funk rock side reminiscent of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, whilst 'Kick In The Teeth' is a heavy, energy-soaked four minutes that combines the energy and power of a Chris Cornell song with guitar and bass parts stuck somewhere between Muse and Lenny Kravitz.
The music was recorded over a month in the band member's homes, and mixed and mastered by the band's bassist, Will Soutter.
